Los Altos City Council Agenda and Packet Jan. 10, 2012

Reorg Los Altos Commissions
Reorg Los Altos Commissions
Written by lalahpolitico

A reorg of Planning and Traffic commissions, more multi-family housing parking, $50K to alter Library parking, and a ban of plastic bags and styrofoam are issues for discussion and action on the Los Altos City Council Agenda.

Here in order of interest to the general public:

PLANNING AND TRAFFIC REORG(9): A new structure for Planning, Architecture Review, Adjustments Traffic, and Bicycle/Pedestrian – Recommendation is to create a single Planning and Transportation Commission which reports to council, a Design Review Commission which reports to council, and a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee which reports to the Planning and Transportation Commission

ZONING CHANGES(8): These seem minor EXCEPT perhaps for requiring more parking for multi-family housing development. This will raise the costs of multi-family development somewhat. Also there are some language changes for parking in commercial zones. Also some changes for carports intended to prevent their conversion to living space. And more wording changes which seem to be code clarification.

$50K TO MOVE 3 LIBRARY PARKING SPACES(10): The city proposes to remove the 3 parking spaces at the library which are closest to San Antonio Road and build 3 new ones down closer to the oak tree. Why? There is frequently stopped traffic on San Antonio Road when library patrons back out of the first three spaces. There will be no net change in the number of spaces. This will cost $50,000. Sticker Shock?

GOODBYE PLASTIC BAGS and STYROFOAM(11): It looks like complying with new requirements to reduce pollution of municipal storm water by 40% will involve banning of these in retail Los Altos. There are other measures to be taken of course.
