The City and its RNN consultants have created a fair-minded Los Altos Downtown Vision survey for you. Do you have only 10 to 15 minutes to spare? You could go ahead and take it by clicking the link on this page.
If you missed the in-person charrette in November 2017, you can stay engaged digitally now.
YOUR QUICK 10 minutes RESPONSE
Even if you haven’t been well-informed, you could simply skip the bulk of the questions in the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey…but register a Yeah or Nay about a few of these potential HOT BUTTONS…you do know about
Roundabout at San Antonio and Edith
Pedestrian overpasses/underpasses at Lincoln Park
Pedestrian overpasses/underpasses across San Antonio Road
Firepits/music pits/ other “activity nodes” on downtown sidewalks
Public art on potential public plazas
Which parking plazas could become parks / parking structures/ theaters / hotels/ affordable housing and which should not…
Do you love or hate the idea of reducing vehicular access to some blocks in the downtown core in order to increase bike-walk use…
Affordable housing project built on a City Parking Plaza
If there is ONE something you really, really would like to STOP in its tracks, or something you really, really would like to see GO FORWARD, here is chance to nip it in the bud, or to keep nurturing the bud. Take the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey and focus on that item.

OR… YOUR DEEP DIVE 45 minute RESPONSE
If you have more time that 10 or 15 minutes, do watch the video of the consultant’s presentation. It is 45 minutes. That will give you a decent orientation to the 4 scenarios — and all the potential future items the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey is asking about. If you try to really answer every question and make considered comments, all that may take you 30 to 45 minutes more.
How to sign in: Anonymous / Confidential / or Named
The survey software will give you 3 registration options for taking the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey.
- register but keep your name confidential – you can edit your check box responses later…until the survey closes Sunday Dec. 17; your pithy, insightful comments will be visible to other citizens
- register with your name in public view – if you want to enhance your reputation with your great comments!
I took it under option 2. You could go ahead and take it now by clicking the link on this page.
Los Altos Downtown Vision Survey caveats:
Sadly the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey does not distinguish between your liking a thing vs. your willingness to see City taxes used to pay for the thing. For example, I have no problem driving my car in and out of a parking structure above or below ground. That kind of parking won’t discourage me from using downtown. But I don’t think an above ground structure should ever be put on plazas 4,5,6,7,8,9,10. And I don’t want City funds to pay for it wherever it might go.
The naming of the plazas in the survey often does not match what they are called in real life.
Here are some screen shots from the City video…
Many of these pics also are used in the Los Altos Downtown Vision survey itself… any of these you love or hate?
1.Overcrossing to Lincoln Park…. and /or to Civic Center
2. Some more Elaborate Entries to Downtown – monument, archway…
3. Public Parklette at Plaza 5 – BEFORE AND AFTER
This is one of those skinny plazas between Main and State. The central one.
4. SHARED STREETS – pedestrians and bikes have equal access with cars
5. Built-out “activity nodes” on the sidewalks /public plaza
6. Height as it is now. vs. allowing 3rd story with a set-back
AFTER a 2-story and three-story goes in
7. Parking Structure – above ground
8. Affordable Housing on a Downtown Parking Plaza
