Calling all Los Altos City Council candidates! The Mountain View Los Altos League of Women voters hosted an information session for people thinking of running for Los Altos City Council in 2012 or applying to join a city commission as a volunteer commissioner. There were several former mayors and council members there at the Los Altos Library, Sunday March 18.
Mayor Pro Tem Fishpaw spent 7-8 thousand dollars on his campaign. He now spends 10-30 hours a week on council business.
Mayor Pro Tem Jarrett Fishpaw said the biggest surprise of his campaign was that he had to paid a $1500 fee within a couple of weeks of filing with the city. The fee was to be able to place his candidate information next to his name on the printed ballet — otherwise only his name would have appeared. Fishpaw said that council candidates spent around 7 to 8 thousand dollars each in the past campaign. Jan Reed stresses the importance of forming a committee and defining a campaign strategy early. Fishpaw says he spends from 10 to 30 hours a week on council work.

Next for Council Candidates–Town Crier Seminar Ap 14 &21
The next step for Los Altos City Council candidates is to attend one of the Los Altos Town Crier seminars – “Introduction to Campaigning.” The two hour seminar is being held twice – April 14 and April 21 from 9am to 11am. It covers the most important steps, committee formation, funding, effort requirements, filing requirements, endorsements, issue identification, developing your backgrounder, and campaign ethics. We Have Parks in Los Altos thanks to Roy Lave
A number of former mayors attended. Roy Lave said that he considered his best accomplishment during his terms on council and as mayor was to start a parks department by developing the donated Shoup land into a park. After that he saw to it that as the Los Altos School District started selling sites, those sites remained in the public sector, because the city bought them. Rosita park is one of the results.
