At its December 13, 2011 meeting, the City Council removed the planned monoliths from the First Street Streescape. These monoliths had been part of the streetscape plan for both sides of First Street at Main Street and on Main Street at the Chevron station.  A pedestal at the Chevron Station may be reused for public sculpture.

The First Street Streetscape Plan was previously discussed at Council meetings on February 26, 2008, March 11, 2008, April 8, 2008, September 9,2008, September 8, 2009, January 26, 2010, February 9, 2010, May 25, 2010, April 26, 2011, and May24, 2011; August 3, 2011; December 3, 2011

Editorial Comment

First Street Streetscape is a City Capital Improvement Project. In other words, property taxes of all Los Altans pay for it. It is not a special assessment on the downtown property owners along First Street. Perhaps huge construction permit fees from the developers more than pay for it? Just wondering.
